I have always been a fan of quotes; New, old, traditional, well known, not so well known, you name it. I think they can be pretty powerful and either inspire you to do something great or reflect on a significant event or time in your life.
Some of my all-time favorites include:
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~Ghandi
So, the other night I was at a monthly Mid MD Tri Club meeting. (For those of you unfamiliar, MMTC is a USAT-sanctioned, not-for-profit group dedicated to helping and supporting area triathletes.) Each meeting has a featured speaker, this includes anyone from physical therapists to nutritionists to athletes. At this particular meeting a man named David Slomkowski who runs an organization called Athletes Serving Athletes was the speaker.
As he was talking about his organization and how he serves the challenged athletes to pursue an active lifestyle, he said something that really hit home for me:
“Athletics have a way of breaking down barriers.”
He went on to talk about this from many different points of view but to me, this TRULY applies to Team Fight in so many ways:
- Personally – you break down your own barriers to achieve a better race time, longer distance race, or by simply completing your first endurance event!
- Inter-personally – you break down barriers by meeting over 200+ other teammates, those people that you may never have come across unless you joined TEAM FIGHT!
- Socially – you break down barriers by helping a newbie to go a little faster, a little longer and finish or motivate others by pushing the envelope in weekly trainings.
- Organizationally – you break down barriers by meeting others who have had a similar cancer experience, whether it be personal or through a family member or friend, or learn about those you are helping by being apart of the TEAM and supporting The Ulman Cancer Fund.
This list goes on and on, but I think you see where I am going with this. Being apart of TEAM FIGHT breaks down barriers in many many ways!!! And for many of you, you are doings things and/or meeting people that you would never have otherwise. Pretty cool to think about!
So, now I ask, do you have any quotes that inspire you?
