About a year ago our Executive Director, Brock Yetso, asked a simple question to a young adult cancer patient at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center: “What can UCF do to help make your holiday better for you and your family?”
Her answer…“A Christmas present for my 5-year-old.” And so the UCF gift drive was born! A year later the tradition continues…
Over the last couple weeks we have asked for both your and monetary donations that will go directly to young adult patients and their families this holiday season. As always, our volunteers and supporters MORE THAN delivered by bringing gifts to our YACS Holiday Event, donated merchandise from their stores, or simply wrote a check to go towards gifts cards to Target, travel expenses, etc.
THANK YOU to all who donated, as you made holiday better for 13 young adult patients and their families!
Because of your generosity we were add another piece into the mix. Yesterday, we (UCF staff) all took a trip to the cancer center and set-up shop in the waiting room. In addition to delivering some of the presents to patients, we were able to bring coffee, cookies, and Starbuck’s gift cards to patients, their families, and the staff that takes care of them day in and day out. It was a small way to say thank you on our end, but very much appreciated!
As we get close to the end of 2010 and get ready to restart in January, from all of us at UCF THANK YOU for your passion, support, and energy over this past year and especially during this holiday season for our young adult patients and their families! We can’t do what we do without you!
Merry Christmakwanzakah and Happy Holidays!
