A year ago, just 3 months after joining the team at the UCF, I was deeply inspired by a personal delivery I got to make as an Ulman Cancer Fund elf. After the delivery I wrote this (cheesy) poem.
For me, the holidays bring a gentler spirit, delicious food, amazing TV (Falala Lifetime!), and a generous outpouring of gifts from my loved ones. And although some of my favorite gifts include the hugs, quality time with my relatives and eating food I didn’t have to cook, the presents aren’t so bad either!
That got me to thinking… not all the people I work with are in a position where they have the emotional energy, physical energy, or financial capability to give their loved ones presents. And so, the UCF seeks to relieve our patients at UMGCC from this burden.
If you would like to participate in our gift drive this year, we have easy ways you can contribute! Attend the UCF Young Adult Cancer Support (YACS) Sweater Party at Mother’s Federal Hill Grille with an unwrapped gift. A gift grants you free admission to the event. You will enjoy the company of great people, munch on delicious food, receive complimentary drinks and get to dress in your holiday finest (or funniest).
Out-of-staters can contribute also. Check out additional ways to donate and a list of suggested donations on our website.
When you’re planning your long list of holiday shopping (and believe, me I know it is long) think about if you were spending that holiday away from your family, not feeling well and possibly in a hospital. Then think about what you might like to receive that would make you feel like you were far far away from that reality. Add that gift to your shopping list…
