Towson Tackles Cancer

For me, this week has been a whirlwind of meetings, creating a PSA, and doing my first radio spot. Can you say nerve-racking? I am very excited to be working on my first event here at the UCF. Towson Tackles Cancer is finally coming together and I couldn’t be happier. For the lucky listeners of 89.7 WTMD, you were able to hear Sharon Curran, Clinical Assistant Professor at Towson University and long-time UCF volunteer, and myself talking about UCF and Towson Tackles Cancer on air this morning. Apparently, I didn’t look or appear nervous. The old saying, don’t judge a book by its cover, it’s very pertinent to how I was feeling this morning.

I have no problem talking about the UCF and our mission, but ask me to talk a little about myself and I instantly get befuddled and extremely nervous. I got great feedback from the radio spot. Hopefully it will get people out to Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson this weekend. Now a little about the event…

At the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults we want to bring the organization back to where it started the roots of the grassroots-college campuses. Through the University Outreach program we will create an on campus movement to increase awareness and give students the power to push their peers to take action and FIGHT against cancer. We’ll give university students the opportunity and platform to reach out to their friends and fellow students who have been affected to cancer to get them involved in the FIGHT, and alert them to ways they can FIGHT cancer in their own lives.

Recently, the UCF reached and Towson University created a partnership. By generating a partnership with Towson Football, the UCF has another platform for our University Outreach program to reach out to young adults who are affected by cancer. Towson Tackles Cancer is the theme for Towson’s last home football game against Maine. A portion of the proceeds generated from game sales will be going to the Ulman Cancer Fund.

I will be “womaning” a UCF tent along with Elizabeth Saylor and Sharon Curran at game time (2 PM) on Saturday at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Towson’s campus. We will have oodles of information on our programs (Team Fight, Cancer to 5K, Patient Navigation, and University Outreach) and we will be joined by 4K for Cancer Executive Director, David Conover. We will be collecting donations at the UCF tent throughout the game. Stop by and show your support for the young adults affected by cancer on Towson’s campus and in the community.

WHEN: November 13th, 2011 @ 2 pm
